Feeling peckish? Hayle punches above its weight when it comes to independent restaurants and appealing takeaway shacks. In North Quay, you’re close to the Copperhouse end of Hayle, which is lined with unique shops and cafes, and you’re never far from a pub in Cornwall…

Eating by Hayle's Quays.

Lula Shack is a laid-back place in the middle of North Quay. Start your day with a hearty breakfast and end it with a drink in the bar under their inviting string lights. In between, call in for their delicious Cornish/Creole/Floridian blend of food, made from fresh, local ingredients. 

If you head across the bridge and into Hayle (perhaps pausing at the lido cafe on the way), there are some great places for street food in this part of town. When in Cornwall, you need to have at least one proper pasty, and Hayle is home to the massive Philps bakery. It’s just over the bridge: you can’t miss it. Order a medium steak, and eat it on a bench looking out at the boats.

Still hungry? Iced On The Quay is a stall in Philps’ car park that sells the most indulgent waffles you can imagine. Other takeout places in the neighbourhood include the legendary Mr B’s for an ice cream, Feed for a brilliant breakfast or lunch, and if you fancy fish & chips, Lewy’s.

Restaurants and Cafes in Hayle.

Cross the bridge from North Quay, and you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to bars, cafes and restaurants. Salt Bar (near the viaduct) offers favourites like burgers, made from great Cornish ingredients, or try Duckies Cafe in Penpol Terrace, a small place with a fantastic menu. 

If you’re happy to take a taxi, Birdies Bistro and The Old Forge are just outside Hayle in Lelant, as well The Old Quay House on the estuary.

Turn left from the bridge to walk to The Cornish Arms, which has a pleasant garden for a summer-evening cocktail.

If you’re driving or taking a taxi, The Bucket of Blood in Phillack (there’s quite a tale behind the name…) is a good food pub, as is the Angarrack Inn (just across the A30). Still in Hayle, the pub at Paradise Park, The Bird In Hand, is housed in an old stable block. It’s possibly the only pub in Britain where you can hear parrots from the beer garden.
