Pedn Olva, Porthminster Beach, St Ives.
With some of the best views in St Ives, the terrace at Pedn Olva is a wonderful spot for an al fresco lunch or chilled-out sundowner. Like most of its sister St Austell Brewery establishments, this recently refurbished hotel, bar and restaurant welcomes well-behaved pups. Aim to find a table on the rooftop or side terrace, and relax with a glass of chilled local gin.
Lifeboat Inn, The Wharf, St Ives.
One of St Austell’s pubbier pubs, the Lifeboat Inn is a friendly and lively place for food and drink where dogs and kids are made to feel very welcome. The open fire and cosy chairs make it one of the best places for a cosy winter pint, and your dog can join you with a bowl of Proper Dog “beer”. There are harbour views from the window tables, and the pub is just a few pawsteps away from dog-friendly Lambeth Walk Beach.
The Sloop, The Wharf, St Ives.
A St Ives icon, The Sloop Inn is a must-visit pub during your Cornwall holidays. On a sunny day, the outside benches are packed with locals, visitors and dogs of all shapes and sizes. Pups are welcome in the cosy bar, too. The historic hostelry serves a great variety of local ales and ciders, and it is an excellent choice for fresh seafood and home-cooked pub food.
The Cornish Arms, St Ives Road, Carbis Bay.
Staying in Carbis Bay outside St Ives? Make the most of your new local pub, The Cornish Arms. This traditional pub has a cosy bar and a sunny beer garden, both of which welcome canine customers. The food is home-cooked and hearty, there is regular live music, and the pub is easy to find on the main road through Carbis Bay. An excellent place to round off your Steeple Woods walk.
The Watermill, Lelant.
The pretty village of Lelant (between Carbis Bay and Hayle) has an excellent choice of places to eat and drink for its small size. This old pub on the edge of the village is wonderfully pet-friendly, and the beer garden is a super spot for dogs and families on a warm day. Inside, the comfy bar is a popular place for a traditional Sunday roast dinner.
The Bucket of Blood, Phillack, Hayle,
You will find this quirkily named pub in the village of Phillack, just outside Hayle. The listed building dates back to the Middle Ages; however its gruesome name comes from a dramatic later tale of smugglers and murder… Like most St Austell pubs, the Bucket is a welcoming place for dogs and families, and serves a range of delicious pub classics. The perfect end to a day on Hayle’s beaches.
Admiral Benbow, Chapel Street, Penzance.
We cannot even begin to describe this unique Penzance pub with its amazing decor and many legends, so we suggest you pay it a visit yourself! The Benbow has been “proudly serving pirates, smugglers and rum” since 1695, and happily, it also serves dogs. Ask at the bar for treats for your pup to enjoy while you browse the extensive menu (the pizzas are highly recommended)..
The Ship Inn, Mousehole.
Head further west to this postcard-pretty fishing harbour. Mousehole may be famous for its cat story, but it is also a very dog-friendly village with a choice of welcoming pubs and restaurants. Home of the famous star-gazey pie, the Ship is a proper Cornish pub with oak beams, open fires and lots of maritime memorabilia. Dogs are guaranteed to have a fuss made of them!
